What is the difference between a tap and a die?

A tap cuts an internal thread into a hole, a die cuts an external thread on a bar or rod. This set gives you both tools so you can work with any metric thread size from M3 to M12.

Can taps and dies be used on plastic or aluminum?

Yes, but caution is required. On soft metals and plastics, threads are cut more easily, but the material may stick to the tool. We recommend lubricating the tap with mineral oil and working more slowly. On steel, cast iron, and brass, there will be no problems.
